calling all dog parents - harness or collar: what's best?

Harnesses - Pros & Cons

Harnesses are great for smaller breeds of cats and dogs, especially those with little necks that are fragile. They’re also awesome for dogs that tend to get rowdy in public, because it gives you more control over their movement. Harnesses give great support and you don’t have to worry about your pup straining their neck when they’re enjoying their stroll. However, if your pet has a skin condition, a harness might rub their skin and irritate it even more.

Collars - Pros & Cons

Collars are important for identification, as most collars allow you to attach an ID tag. They’re also more comfortable for when your pup is just lounging around. Collars can be a good option for walks when your dog isn’t a puller, and when they’re built a little heftier with no respiratory problems. Nevertheless, collars can be dangerous if dogs pull and yank at the leash when they are walking, because it can restrict their throats and choke them.

Whatever you choose to use, be sure to test it out first at home before taking your dog on a grand adventure. Also, consulting with your veterinarian is always a great idea when you’re in doubt. Did you know you can book a slot with a vet through our Vet Connect page?
